An interesting and very
rare set of Condor Legion photos in and around the Wilhelm
Gustloff. A convoy of 7 KdF ships
arrived in Vigo Spain on May 24, 1939 to pick up members
of the Condor Legion as the Spanish Civil War had
ended. This member snapped numerous photos
starting with departure from shore via lifeboat to the Gustloff,
sights and scenes from the decks, and the trip out
to sea led by the recently commissioned Robert Ley. |

during his commission aboard the artillery training
ship Brummer. This same sailor also served
aboard the Admiral Hipper, which was present
during the night of the sinking of the Gustloff,
but unable to help due to fear of further attacks by
Soviet submarine S-13. |
